Arbitrary Box Office Results for the Weekend of June 16, 2006

Maybe it's only the theater at which I work, but everything seems to be going opposite of what I would have originally predicted. "Nacho Libre" is tanking (despite the "Napoleon Dynamite" connection) and "Fast and the Furious 3" is doing pretty well (despite the fact that, well, it's "Fast and the Furious 3"). "Lake House" is holding its own too, which may be the most surprising thing this weekend. In fact, the only predictable aspect is that "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties" is getting eaten alive by the storm that is "Cars" (mixed metaphors galore!).
  1. Hicks are in heaven! (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift): $25.7 million. Two movies about cars within two weeks?! Gee shucks, ma! Dale 4ever!!!!! The plus-side to this movie: some of this world's impressionable, teenaged idiots will die a fiery death after "drifting" into tanker trucks.
  2. Boring "Quotable" Movie (Nacho Libre): $24.3 million. I'm sure I've already heard people quoting this piece of trash, and I just don't know it yet. I hate quoting.
  3. The Butterscotch Stallion presents... (Cars):$24.1 million. And thus begins the summer of Owen Wilson's discontent.
  4. Vince Vaughn: Still Detestable, Still a Testicle (The Breakup):$12 million. I didn't think it was possible for a couple to have less charisma than Woody Allen and Soon Yi Previn. I was so very wrong. Watching VV and Aniston is like watching a teacup attempt to screw a four-by-four.
  5. Wow (X3):$10.3 million. I finally got around to seeing it, and I must begrudgingly say...that was really very good. Shit...aren't I supposed to say something snarky here?
Not making the top five: Bill Murray has no integrity (Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties). P.S. Monty Python's reference to "A Sale of Two Titties by Darles Chickens" is funnier.
